Kingston residents thinking about running in this fall's municipal election are being reminded to file their nomination papers before the Aug. 21 deadline.
Nominations for mayor, district councillor and school board trustee positions close at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 21. Election day is set for Monday, Oct. 26.
The City of Kingston is encouraging prospective candidates to book an appointment before filing nomination papers to ensure staff are available to complete the process.
To qualify, candidates must be Canadian citizens, at least 18 years old, live in Kingston or own or rent property in the city, or be married to someone who does. They must also not be prohibited from voting under any law.
Information about nomination requirements, candidate responsibilities and important election dates is available through the city's election resources.
Residents are also encouraged to confirm, update or add their information to the voters' list before Aug. 12 to help ensure they are ready to cast a ballot in October.
