Traffic stop leads to charges for local driver

Kingston driver arrested on the 401

A routine traffic stop for a burnt-out taillight led to drug trafficking charges for a driver from Kingston.

During the stop on Highway 401 in Tyendinaga Township, L&A OPP officers noticed alcohol and cannabis inside the vehicle, leading to a search. The search uncovered 1 gram of suspected cannabis, 2 grams of suspected hash, 1 gram of suspected cocaine, 33 grams of suspected psilocybin mushrooms, and $11,000 in cash.

The driver was arrested and faces several charges, including possession of a Schedule III substance for trafficking, possession of cocaine, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and driving with cannabis readily available.

The accused has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on November 26th.
