The Durham College Oshawa GO Station expansion will add tracks and improve service along the Lakeshore East line.
Kingston residents heading to Toronto for a Jays game, concert, show or weekend trip may be familiar with driving to a GO station in Durham Region to catch a train.
Now, major upgrades at Durham College Oshawa GO Station could make those trips easier.
The Ontario government says construction is underway to add two tracks and expand the station, supporting future two-way, all-day GO train service on the Lakeshore East line.
The project includes a new north platform with a canopy and snow-melt system, an extended south platform, pedestrian bridges and a new bus loop.
The improvements are also being built to support future electrification and the planned Bowmanville GO Extension.
That extension will add nearly 19 kilometres to the Lakeshore East line and is expected to support about 17,000 daily trips by 2041.
Ontario says it has invested more than $15.3 billion in GO Expansion projects across the province.
