Kassandra Williamson is living a nightmare. Her 14-year-old daughter has been missing since last Saturday. Now Kassandra is sharing new details about her daughter as the search for Klaira Sophia Peters continues in Kington and beyond.
Kingston Police say Klaira was last seen around 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 8, in the area of Wright Crescent. Police say she is also known to frequent the Kingscourt area.
Her mother, Kassandra Williamson, said the family dropped Klaira off at the Kingston YMCA that afternoon and has not seen her since.
Williamson described her daughter as a kind and intelligent teenager who cares deeply about the people she considers friends.
Williamson said the family believes Klaira may be with someone she had recently started seeing, but they know very little about the person, including his age or where he is from.
The relationship came as a surprise to the family. Williamson said her daughter had largely kept it private. The family also learned Sunday that Klaira apparently had access to a phone, despite them previously believing she did not have one.
Williamson said an Instagram message was received Sunday morning.
The family has not been able to independently verify the message or determine where Klaira was when it was sent.
Williamson said Klaira enjoys spending time with friends and has been known to visit Dollarama, the mall and the YMCA.
Her appearance can also change significantly because she enjoys colouring her hair with temporary dye. Williamson said it had recently been dark blue before fading to a dark green shade that could appear almost black.
Police say Klaira currently has dark green hair. She was last seen wearing a black hoodie and green sweatpants. Williamson said she also had white running shoes and was carrying a backpack. She didn't think anything of that bag as she would always carry one into the YMCA when she visited.
Kingston Police told KingstonDaily.ca in a statement that their investigation into Klaira's disappearance is active and residents are encouraged to watch the service’s social media posts for updates and immediately share any information they may have about Klaira.
Her mother is pleading with the public. Kassandra says even a small detail could help bring Klaira home.
