Southeast Public Health will decide next month how to maintain operations as municipal representation changes after the Oct. 26 election.
Kingston residents could see changes to who represents them on the region’s public health board following this fall’s municipal election.
The Southeast Public Health Board of Health deferred a decision Wednesday on a proposed caretaker resolution, which is intended to keep the organization operating while municipal representation is in transition. The board includes representatives from Kingston and other municipalities across southeastern Ontario.
The board wants legal advice on when the caretaker period should begin on election day, Oct. 26, or when the current councillors’ terms end Nov. 14.
The resolution is expected to come back for a vote at the board’s September meeting.
The issue matters to Kingston because local councillors have seats on the regional health board, which oversees public health services affecting residents across Kingston, Frontenac and Lennox and Addington.
The next Board of Health meeting is scheduled for Sept. 23.
