Good dog! Kingston Police K9 unit nabs break-in suspect

Backyard chase ended quickly

A quick response from Kingston Police led to the arrest of a 30-year-old break-and-enter suspect on January 17, 2025.

Police were called to a Nelson Street home around 10 p.m. after a reported break-in. Emergency Response and K9 units quickly set up a perimeter in the surrounding subdivision.

The suspect had fled on foot, but the K9 unit tracked them through several backyards, leading officers to a carport near Toronto Street. There, police found the suspect hiding, along with key evidence tied to the break-in.

The accused faces charges including break and enter, theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, and two counts of breaching probation.

They were transported to police headquarters and held for a bail hearing.

Kingston Police credited teamwork and the K9 unit for the swift resolution, reassuring residents of their commitment to community safety.
