67's put Frontenacs on brink of elimination after Game 3 win

Foster with 3 assists for Ottawa who take a commanding 3-0 series lead.

The Frontenacs were back at Slush Puppie Place but it was the 67's that felt they were at home.

It was also more of the same from Ottawa in Game 3 of the first-round playoff series Tuesday night. The 67's dominated in just about every facet of the game securing a 4-1 victory and take a commanding 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven.

As it was in the first two games, there was a fight early in the opening period. Kingston's Will Bishop and Teddy Spitznagel of Ottawa dropped the gloves :24 into the game.

The 67's once again seemed energized after that fight. After a disallowed goal midway through the first period, Spencer Bowes split by the Frontenacs defense, took a saucer pass from Cooper Foster and outdeeked Matthew Minchak to give Ottawa a 1-0 lead.

As it was in Game 2, the Frontenacs were badly outshot by the 67's 11-2 in the first period.

Special teams once again was a factor as the Frontenacs had four opportunities with the man advantage scoring once on a Matt Henderson goal late in the third period. They are a combined 2-for-12 in the first three games of this series.

Captain Vann Williamson says special teams has been a problem.

It was still a one-goal game going into the third period when Ottawa added another power play goal from Jasper Kuhta giving them a combined 5-for-8 with the man advantage. Then Sam McCue backhanded one past Minchak :58 later for a 3-1 67's lead.

Frontenacs forward Kieran Dervin, who had one assist in the game, says one goal going their way could have made a difference in the series.

Head coach Troy Mann says his team took a beating in the first two games of the series in Ottawa and it may have carried into Game 3.

In addition to the players being worn out, the Frontenacs were without forward Tomas Pobezal who came down with an illness on Monday.

Minchak finished with 32 saves while Ryder Fetterolf stopped 18 shots for the victorious 67's. Foster collected 3 assists for Ottawa.

Kingston will look to avoid elimination Thursday night in Game 4 at Slush Puppie Place. If you can't make it to the game, listen in on New Country 98.9 at 7 pm for Upper Canada Fuel and Burner Frontenacs Hockey with Jim Gilchrist.
