What's Good in Kingston? Volunteers needed for iCan Bike program

Teaching a child how to ride a bike is one of the more rewarding things

KidsInclusive is seeking volunteers to help out with their iCan Bike program.

iCan Bike teaches children with developmental disabilities how to ride a bicycle so they can operate one themselves.

The program is being brought back after a five-year hiatus.

Stephanie Carswell, a physiotherapist with KidsInclusive, says they require two or more volunteers for each child that signs up in the program.

Carswell says kids learn the fundimentals of riding a bicycle with the end goal of having them operate it all by themselves.

The program is taking place at the Cataraqui Arena on Sunnyside Road July 14 to 18.

Volunteers can be adults or youth who are looking to fulfill volunteer hours.

Carswell says there is nothing more fulfilling than seeing a child ride a bike.

Those interested in volunteering can email tarika.chavali@kingstonhsc.ca or stephanie.carswell@kingstonhsc.ca.
