It's a Good Life If You Don't Weaken uses the music of the iconic Kingston band.

There is a new musical based on the songs of the Tragically Hip.

It's a Good Life If You Don't Weaken tells the story of a journalist exiled from Iraq that comes to Canada and meets a local music store owner.

Thousand Islands Playhouse in Gananoque will be producing the musical in Kingston in association with Theatre Aquarius in Hamilton, David and Hannah Mirvish, and Michael Rubinoff.

Managing Artistic Director at Thousand Islands Playhouse Brett Christopher says the musical blends a truly Canadian story with music from an iconic Canadian rock band.

Christopher says the play will attract traditional theatre-goers and fans of the Tragically Hip.

The musical has been in development for the last two years.

Christopher says it was a bit of the difficult process in selecting which songs to use.

Christopher says it will first run in Hamilton in May before moving it to Kingston this fall.

It's a Good Life If You Don't Weaken will be at the Grand Theatre in Kingston from Oct 22 to Nov 8. Tickets go on sale Tuesday Mar 31.

More information on the musical can be found by going to the Thousand Islands Playhouse website.
