What's Good in Kingston: Toys for Tickets

This is the 21st year of the campaign where drivers who receive parking tickets can pay with a toy donation in lieu of fine.

A popular initiative is back for another year.

The City of Kingston have launched Toys for Tickets where motorists who receive a parking ticket can donate a new unwrapped toy in lieu of the fine.

Supervisor of Enforcement Services Dan Hazell says this is an opportunity to turn something negative like getting a ticket for a parking infraction and turn it into something positive.

The program first began in 2005 and since then, more than 4,000 toys have been donated to help children in needy families in Kingston.

Tickets issued between Nov. 1 and Dec. 3 are eligible for this program. People can drop off their toy donation to the City Hall Payment Centre between 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.

Hazell goes over some of the conditions of the Toys for Tickets program.

Hazell adds people can bring in their toy donation as soon as they receive a ticket. All the toys collected will go to the Salvation Army's Toy Mountain campaign.

Hazell says people have brought in all kinds of toys in the past.

Those who do not wish to bring in a toy to pay the fine are still responsible for the tickets they receive.
