Documentary shines a light on fishing families and life on the water.
The Great Lakes Museum in Kingston is hosting a special screening of the documentary Last Boat on the Lake on Friday, Jan. 16.
The event runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., with the film starting at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $20. Visitor Experience Manager Claire Notman tells us where the event is located.
Produced by Dalhousie University filmmaker Hannah Harrison, the documentary explores the lives of people who make their living on the water. It features commercial fishing families from Prince Edward County and follows fishers on Lakes Ontario, Erie and Huron. Notman explains more.
The film looks at Great Lakes commercial fisheries, one of the largest freshwater fisheries in the world, but one many people know little about. It was made in partnership with Saugeen First Nation and includes both Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives.
A post-screening question-and-answer session will include the filmmaker and featured fishing families.
Visitor Experience Manager Claire Notman says the film connects people to the Great Lakes and the real stories behind local food.
