What's Good in Kingston: Stuff the Bus

Kingston aims to set record with Stuff the Bus food drive this week.

Kingston residents are being asked to help “Stuff the Bus” this week in support of the Partners in Mission Food Bank.

The annual food drive takes place Thursday, Oct. 9, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. outside Metro on Gardiners Road. Organizers hope to set a record for donations as demand for food bank services continues to rise in the community.

Operational Manager of Metro, John VanLuven talks about how Metro offers prepackaged donation kits.

Shoppers can bring their own non-perishable food items or purchase pre-packed food bank bundles in-store to place directly on the bus. Robert Hogan Bus Lines is partnering with the food bank to provide the bus that will be filled with donations throughout the day.

Bobbi Jo Buchanan, General Manager of Robert Hogans says that they will do anything to help out the community.

Buchanan also talks about how this time of year is usually the hardest for those in need.

John VanLuven says any donation can make a difference.

Residents are urged to stop by Metro on Oct. 9 to help fill the bus and fight hunger in Kingston.

Executive Director, Dan Irwin comments, "Partners in Mission Food Bank relies on our community for food and funds. We truly appreciate the support that Metro Gardiners Road and Hogan Bus Lines Stuff the Bus provide to us.

As of the end of September we have seen an increase in visits by 7% over last year and have helped 8,632 people, including 2,687 children. We are on pace to set another record, which will be the 5th in a row."

Even a single can of food can make a difference for a neighbour in need. With strong community support, the hope is to not only fill the bus but also set a new record for contributions to the Partners in Mission Food Bank.
