Annual Polar Plunge supports more than 23,000 Special Olympics athletes across Ontario.
Community members are being encouraged to save the date for the 2026 Polar Plunge in support of Special Olympics Ontario.
The annual fundraiser is set for March 8th, and will once again bring together individuals, organizations and local businesses willing to take an icy dip for a meaningful cause. Each year, thousands of participants across the province brave the cold to raise money for Special Olympics athletes.
We spoke with media relations officer, Constable Anthony Colangeli for details on the event.
Funds collected through the event directly support year-round sports training, competitions and community programs for more than 23,000 athletes across Ontario. Organizers say the initiative helps foster inclusion, build confidence and promote athletic achievement for people with intellectual disabilities.
Colangeli says that the support of showing up is much appreciated.
The plunge is proudly presented by the Ontario Law Enforcement Torch Run, a volunteer-led movement dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Special Olympics athletes throughout the province.
Constable Colangeli explains this event is an enjoyable experience for all participants.
The local event will take place at 1 Brock St., behind the Confederation Hotel, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.
Those interested in participating or donating can find more information on the official Polar Plunge website.
