Ongwanada Developmental Services has been supporting people with developmental disabilities in Kingston and Eastern Ontario for nearly 80 years.
Founded in 1948, the non-profit organization focuses on helping children and adults, particularly those with complex needs, live as independently as possible while remaining connected to their communities. Senior Director of Professional Services and Partnerships, Katie Roberts gives us an idea of the scope of their work.
The organization provides invaluable resources of offering specialized services including nursing, occupational and physiotherapy, psychology, social work and nutrition, while partnering with Queen's University on research aimed at improving quality of life for people with developmental disabilities. Roberts says the voices of individuals served are always heard when planning opportunities for people to make informed decisions with the goal to increase their quality of life.
Funded primarily by Ontario's Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services, Ongwanada serves hundreds of individuals and families across Eastern Ontario.
