Orchestra Kingston wraps season with Sibelius showcase at The Spire.
Orchestra Kingston is closing its 2025-26 season with a Mother’s Day concert celebrating the music of Jean Sibelius.
The “Magic of Sibelius” performance is set for May 10 at The Spire, featuring a mix of classical favourites. The program opens with Franz von Suppé’s “Light Cavalry Overture,” followed by Carl Maria von Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1.
The concerto will spotlight Kingston native Sammy Johnston, a former principal clarinetist with the orchestra who now teaches in Ottawa.
Johnston says she’s looking forward to performing back home.
She adds it’s especially meaningful to return with one of her favourite pieces.
The concert concludes with Sibelius’ Symphony No. 1, known for its romantic Nordic style.
The show begins at 2:30 p.m.
