What's good in Kingston? Making transformative changes in youth

Youth Diversion's Restorative Process

For over 50 years, Kingston's Youth Diversion has been helping thousands of children and youth overcome challenges. Executive Director Shawn Quigley explains their restorative process.

Last year they reached over 3,800 children youth and families to help overcome challenges. Their MEND program alone impacted almost 1,400 people.

Shawn referred to a major crime committed by two youth; one who went through their restorative program and one who faced the justice system. The youth who chose restoration was able to build a solid and close relationship with the victims of their crime and is now back on track, while the other has re-offended. Shawn says answering the question, 'what don't we know' goes a long way to providing permanent solutions.

Surprisingly Youth Diversion doesn't receive all the funding they need from government sources even though their programs only cost $1 per day, while incarceration costs the public $200 per day. Learn how you can help at youthdiversion.org
