Loving Hands Kingston; helping to keep everyone safe
Loving Hands Kingston was founded in late 2015 by Maryann Ruttan, originally focusing on distributing blessing bags filled with items such as socks and toiletries to those in need. They quickly transitioned to support people in local shelters with furniture and necessities.
Ruttan describes what they do today.
Ruttan points out they're not promoting encampments, but instead are responding to the existing housing crisis.
She notes that finding housing, while an important step to get people out of precarious and unsafe conditions, doesn't represent the end of their support needs.
Ruttan says they're trying to help people get through the day safely, and to treat everyone with compassion and respect because they care about the well-being of everyone in the community. Their model is simple; every donation received, either funds or materials, goes out to those in need.
Our recent spate of cold winter weather brings the need for related support items.
Those who are interested or able to help are encouraged to check out their Facebook page or by emailing lovinghandskingston@gmail.com or by calling 613-217-2354.
