Connecticut Sun star says Kingston support still means everything as city celebrates Aaliyah Edwards Day

It has been two years since May 14 was officially declared Aaliyah Edwards Day in Kingston, and the hometown basketball star says the support still feels special.

She shares her thoughts with FLY-FM's Reid & Ben.

Edwards, who plays for the Connecticut Sun, recently spoke about her growing career, Kingston memories and excitement surrounding the WNBA’s new expansion team in Toronto. Connecticut plays Toronto on June 10th.

The Kingston-born athlete made history after being selected sixth overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft. She previously starred at University of Connecticut and has represented Canada on the national team since 2018.

Kingston city council unanimously approved the proclamation recognizing Edwards’ first WNBA game and her achievements on and off the court.

Mayor Bryan Paterson said the city remains proud of Edwards’ accomplishments and her impact on young athletes across Canada.
