Team of 30 will tackle the Mudgirl Run while raising funds for Breast Cancer Action Kingston and its support programs.
A group of Kingston-area women is preparing to get muddy for a cause that helps hundreds of people affected by breast cancer across the region.
The team, called “Dirty Boobs,” will take part in the Mudgirl Run in Ottawa on July 18, raising money for Breast Cancer Action Kingston (BCAK), a local charity that supports breast cancer survivors, previvors and those currently undergoing treatment.
Team leader Heather Bolton said the initiative began with a five-person hair salon team and has grown significantly over the past three years. This year, 30 women will participate in the obstacle-course event, many of whom have supported Bolton throughout her own breast cancer journey. Bolton explains how this all started.
Bolton says they have been doing Mudruns since 2018.
BCAK provides emotional, physical and financial support to people affected by breast cancer in Kingston and southeastern Ontario. Its services include peer support, exercise and yoga classes, financial assistance and community programs designed to help people navigate treatment and recovery.
President of Breast Cancer Action Kingston, Dr. Heather White, says the team's dedication has made a real impact over the years.
Bolton said community support plays a key role in the fundraiser's success. Donations can be made directly to the team, while Kawartha Credit Union's Bayridge branch is also holding a raffle, with all proceeds going to BCAK.
As a volunteer-driven organization, BCAK relies on fundraising to continue offering programs and services locally.
Organizers say every dollar raised stays in the community, helping provide support, connection and hope to those facing breast cancer.
