What's Good in Kingston: Kingston swim event promises big splash for local kids in need

Community invited to a full day of waterfront fun supporting Easter Seals Ontario

Easter Seals Ontario and the Kingston Yacht Club are set to host a new waterfront fundraiser on July 4, combining sport, community spirit and family-friendly activities.

The inaugural Swim the Lake will kick off the day with 3-kilometre and 1.5-kilometre open water races along Kingston’s shoreline. Organizer, Linda Clouthier says the event is expected to draw swimmers, volunteers and supporters from across the region, with limited registration spots still open.

The swim will be followed by the annual Summerfest Regatta, featuring live music, local vendors, a barbecue and sailing races. Families can also take part in accessible activities, including adaptive sailing experiences offered by Able Sail Kingston. Clouthier explains more.

Funds raised will support 147 children and youth in Kingston and southeastern Ontario through Easter Seals Ontario. The organization provides mobility and accessibility equipment such as wheelchairs and communication devices, as well as access to camp programs.

Clouthier says that she has hosted this event elsewhere but knew Kingston needed it too.

Organizers say the combined events aim to build community while improving opportunities for children with physical disabilities.
