Honoured for leadership on and off the ice

Hayden Leeder of La Salle Secondary School is one of just eight students in Ontario to earn a $5,000 scholarship from the Ontario Minor Hockey Association and Dairy Farmers of Ontario.

Leeder was selected for his strong academics, athletic skills, and community leadership.

His mother Stephanie Leeder said in a video announcing the scholarship, that Hayden has always cared for others.

At school, Hayden helped lead anti-bullying campaigns through the Red Cross Club.

He also surveyed students on improving school safety, and presented the findings to trustees.

He also served on the Leadership Council, organized food and clothing drives, and tutored students in math.

One of his teachers, Manjit Singh-Graham says Hayden was an obvious choice when nomination time came around.

An all-around athlete, Hayden competed at OFSAA in cross-country and played football, soccer and track.

On the ice, he played for Kingston Minor Hockey, where coaches called his group the “hard hat line” for their work ethic.

He plans to study Computer Engineering at Queen’s University.

In total, $40,000 in bursaries were awarded across Ontario.
