What's Good in Kingston: First baby of 2026

The Masses welcomed their second child, a girl, on New Year's Day.

Kingston welcomed the first newborn of 2026.

Audrey Masse came into the world at Kingston General Hospital Thursday morning.

Her parents, Cassondra and Aiden Masse, were thrilled about the arrival of their second child.

Aiden says the original due date was around Dec. 27 and the prospects of the baby arriving New Year's Day became more apparent.

Cassondra started developing contractions the night before but it wasn't until the following morning that she realized she was going into labour. Much of Eastern Ontario woke up to as much as 20 centemetres of snow on Thursday so Aiden had to shovel the driveway in order to get Cassondra to the hospital.

Aiden says when they arrived they didn't realize that they were the first couple admitted to the hospital that day.

A couple of hours later, Audrey was born coming in at seven pounds, nine ounces.

Aiden says Cassondra is doing well after giving birth.

Aiden says their son, Vincent, is excited to be a big brother but is having a bit of a tough time adjusting to the new role.
