The Breakthrough T1D Walk brings families, volunteers and supporters together Sunday to raise funds and hope.
Kingston families and community members will come together Sunday for a walk aimed at supporting people living with type 1 diabetes and funding research toward a cure.
The Breakthrough T1D Kingston Walk is set for Sept. 13 at Little Cataraqui Creek Conservation Area, 1655 Perth Road in Glenburnie.
The volunteer-led event will bring together families, sponsors and supporters for a family-friendly day focused on connection, teamwork and fundraising.
Breakthrough T1D, the largest nonprofit funder of type 1 diabetes research, says more than 300,000 Canadians live with the autoimmune disease. About 11 Canadians are diagnosed each day. Volunteer Initiatives and Community Engagement Manager Rosalie Sarasua explains more.
Type 1 diabetes can develop at any age and requires constant insulin, blood glucose monitoring and care. There is currently no cure.
Organizers say the walk offers more than fundraising, creating a place where families can meet others who understand the daily challenges of T1D.
Sarasua explains one of the goals of this walk.
Participants are encouraged to register online and help accelerate research breakthroughs.
