What's Good in Kingston: Coldest Night of the Year

The event organized by LionHearts Kingston aims to eradicate hunger and homelessness.

The Coldest Night of the Year is fast approaching and CNOY events will be held across the country on Saturday February 28th.

In Kingston, things kick off at 4 pm at the Kingston Gospel Temple at 2295 Princess Street. Once again Lionhearts Inc. Kingston will host the event.

Travis Blackmore, founder and CEO of Lionhearts reminds us of how they started and what they do.

Coldest Night of the Year events started in 2011 with just 2 locations raising over $111K. They've exploded in growth and popularity and in 2023, 182 sites raised over $13M.

Travis tells us about this year's event in Kingston.

The date was chosen to allow participants to walk through the cold and dark to declare their concern for people who have no home and take shelter in nooks and crannies. They also walk for those whose days are a battle to house and feed their families and whose nights are filled with fear and frustration or those who have been driven from home by violence and abuse.

CNOY fits well with Lionhearts' mission to end hunger and homelessness as Travis explains.

You can sign up for the walk on your own, or create or join a team by going to cnoy.org and can find out more about Lionhearts at lionhearts.ca.
