What's Good in Kingston: Bright Candles Collective

The initiative aims to have birthday parties for children of families who can't afford one.

A Kingston resident is looking to help throw birthday parties for children of families in need.

Adrianna Green is the founder of the Bright Candles Collective, an initiative she says is the first-of-its-kind dedicated solely to facilitating personalized birthday celebrations for children whose families face financial barriers.

Green says they take care of arranging venue rentals, decorations, party supplies, and gifts.

She says birthdays are a part of a child's development.

Green says she knows from personal experience what it's like for families to have to decide on whether to host a birthday party or getting groceries.

The Bright Candles Collective started this past December and look to throw their first birthday party for a child. They are currently in their pilot phase looking for sponsors and in-kind donations to help them cover the costs of these parties.

There will be a donation drive taking place this Saturday from 1 pm to 5 pm in Meeting Room 3 at the Central Branch of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library on Johnson St.

Green says this is not only an opportunity to donate birthday-related things but also learn more about the collective.
