What's Good in Kingston: Bayridge Secondary School golf tournament aims to support student meal programs

Community fundraiser at Amherstview Golf Club will help provide breakfasts, snacks and lunches for students.

A charity golf tournament organized by staff at Bayridge Secondary School is aiming to raise money for student meal programs and help restore the school’s cafeteria services.

The tournament will take place Saturday, May 30 at Amherstview Golf Club and is open to golfers of all skill levels.

Cassidy Hollywood, an educational assistant at Bayridge Secondary School, said the fundraiser will support the school’s breakfast and food share program, which provides free breakfasts, snacks and small lunches to students every day.

Hollywood said the school cafeteria closed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and organizers hope to eventually reopen it so more students can access meals and food support during the school day.

Registration begins at noon, followed by a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner and a prize presentation will follow the tournament.

Hollywood also shared details about the tournament’s grand prize.

The $125 registration fee includes 18 holes of golf, a cart and dinner. Organizers are also accepting donations from community members and local businesses.
