This Kingston benefit concert brings award-winning roots music to The Spire in support of families with sick children.
Almost Home provides a place of comfort and respite for families whose children are receiving medical treatment in Kingston-area hospitals. Located within walking distance of Kingston General Hospital and Hotel Dieu Hospital, the wheelchair-accessible facility allows parents and siblings to stay nearby while children receive care.
Almost Home's Fund Development Manage, Leslie Myles explains more.
With space for up to 11 families each day, Almost Home makes it easier for parents to maintain bedside vigils and spend meaningful time together in a home-like setting between appointments or overnight stays. Myles says that their goal is to take stress off of parents trying to find a place to stay.
The organization will benefit from a fundraising concert on Saturday, Feb. 21, at The Spire. Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Beverages and snacks will be available for purchase at the licensed event. Fundraisers like these are important for keeping the doors of almost home open.
Headlining the night is The Western Swing Authority, one of Canada’s most celebrated roots and swing ensembles, known for blending western swing, jazz, country and big-band sounds. The award-winning group promises an energetic performance for an important cause.
Opening the show are Kingston artists Savannah Shea and Logan Brown, an original acoustic-electric duo drawing inspiration from folk, blues and contemporary roots music.
All proceeds support Almost Home’s work helping families stay together during medical treatment.
