Grammy-winning Cuban-Canadian artist brings Afro-Latin rhythms to Kingston, where he has a lasting connection to Queen’s University.
Grammy-winning Cuban-Canadian artist Alex Cuba will perform in Kingston on February 7nd, at The Spire, featuring songs from his 11th studio album, Índole. Kingston holds a special place in Cuba’s life, as he received an honorary doctorate from Queen’s University in 2022.
Released in November 2025, Índole explores Cuba’s Afro-Latin roots, transforming sorrow into joy through rhythm, melody, and cross-cultural collaboration. The 12-track album features Cuban percussionist Roberto Vizcaíno Jr., Colombian tropi-pop group Bacilos, and Colombian Vallenato master Chabuco. Lead single Palabras Vacías blends breezy island-inspired sounds with subtle country influences, highlighting Cuba’s genre-crossing style. Cuba says that he doesn't normally follow a concept when writing music.
Cuba’s decorated career includes a Grammy Award, four Latin Grammys, and two Juno Awards. He just recently was nominated for a 7th JUNO award after the release of his most recent album in November. He expresses how important this nomination is to him.
Cuba explains that he loves performing at places like The Spire.
Doors open at 7 p.m., with the show starting at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available through DICE. Fans can expect an evening of vibrant rhythms and heartfelt performances from an artist whose music continues to inspire worldwide.
