Kingston chapter open to those with or without a drinking problem
The Kingston chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous sees a number of people come through their doors who are looking to speak to someone.
They all don't necessarily have a problem with alcohol but do share the same goal of obtaining sobriety. AA is of course there to help.
Jillian is one of the members of AA in Kingston.
She says people are more than welcome to come to one of their meetings.
Jillian (who declined to give her last name) says AA started out small and has grown to help millions of people.
There are two types of meetings at AA, a closed meeting and an open meeting.
Jillian explains the difference between the two.
This year saw an expansion of sales of alcoholic beverages in convenient stores and grocery stores in Ontario.
Some have suggested that would lead to more people developing problems with alcohol.
But Jillian doesn't believe that is always the case.
There have been studies that have also suggested there is a downward trend in people consuming alcohol.
Jillian says there could be a number of factors attributed to this.
If you or know someone who has a problem with alcohol, contact the Kingston chapter of Alcoholics Anonymous at 613-900-6285 or go to their website.
