Nicole Marshall discusses the mission and growing community impact of the Kingston Humane Society
Founded in 1884, the Kingston Humane Society has spent more than 140 years providing shelter, care and advocacy for animals across Kingston and surrounding communities. As the region’s only open-admission shelter, the organization accepts stray animals from 10 municipalities while also offering adoption services, lost-and-found support, low-cost spay and neuter programs, pet licensing and emergency rescue assistance.
The non-profit animal welfare organization operates entirely through community support and donations, receiving no government funding to help carry out its mission. Alongside caring for homeless and neglected animals, the society also works to promote responsible pet ownership and humane treatment through education, partnerships and community outreach initiatives.
Officials say the organization’s vision is to build a more compassionate community where the well-being of animals is valued and respected, while continuing to provide safe shelter and care for animals in need throughout the region.
