Queen’s Researchers awarded $5 Million

Major challenges to be tackled

Queen’s University researchers have been awarded over $5 million in funding from Canada’s federal research agencies.

The investment supports innovative projects, ranging from advancements in green energy to studies of the judicial system. The funding comes from the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) John R. Evans Leaders Fund (JELF) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC).

Queen’s will receive $5.4 million for critical research infrastructure, including technology to study radiation in energy production and public law. The JELF program enhances universities’ ability to recruit top researchers and acquire essential tools.

Among the recipients are Queen’s newest Canada Excellence Research Chairs, Paul Kubes and Yanwen Zhang, each receiving $800,000. Dr. Kubes focuses on immune cell biology and cancer, while Dr. Zhang studies alloy degradation in nuclear reactors.

The funding aims to empower researchers in their quest to address significant global challenges and advance Canada's leadership in research and innovation.
