One group sure hopes he does

A grassroots campaign is urging Kingston Mayor Bryan Paterson to run for the Conservative Party of Canada in the upcoming federal election, and he hasn't ruled it out.

The Kingstonist reports that a statement to them from Paterson confirmed he had been approached about running but has not made a final decision. "I expect to have more to say in January after the holidays," he said.

Paterson acknowledged the strong speculation surrounding the Conservative Party’s nomination in Kingston and The Islands.

He noted that the level of interest this early in the political cycle is unusual, both provincially and federally.

The mayor added that the speculation has also extended to local municipal races.

In the meantime, a new grassroots movement called "We Choose Bryan" has launched a website and is pushing for Paterson to officially enter the race.
