More Information (Kingston Daily is not responsible for external websites)

Launch of Bib & Tucker by local author, DA Brown. Second in a series about KGH Nursing students in the post-ww2 period. Spit & Polish, book one, was published in 2024 and is available in local bookshops and online through www.somewhatgrumpypress.com.

Nursing student Ruth Maclean’s placement takes her to the Ontario Hospital, the former Rockwood Asylum. Treatments for mental illness are rudimentary, veterans are coming back from the war traumatized and angry, and Ruth is doing her placement on a locked ward, where the “worst of the worst” go to be treated. Will she manage the challenge of caring for patients who are unsure of who or where they are? Can she find hope as she takes them through their treatments? Will her family finally step up and help her?
Dorothyanne (DA) Brown, a retired nurse and epidemiologist, uses her experience, research and interviews with past nursing graduates to create Ruth’s world. This is DA Brown’s third novel. She is a developmental editor and writer living in Kingston, ON. She is a graduate of Queen’s Nursing, with a BNSc in 1981.
